Our local community service project is with The Road Home in Salt Lake City, UT. The Road Home is a shelter for homeless families trying to get back on their feet. We work with the women’s group on Wednesday nights to help them gain valuable skills to aid in their transition to independence. We have shared lessons on nutrition, physical fitness and knitting to name a few. To learn more about The Road Home visit www.theroadhome.org.

Internationally, we are in the planning phase of fundraising for Care for Cambodia, a volunteer-only, non-profit organization based in Utah. Our club is organizing a benefit concert for the fall of 2007. All proceeds will go toward building wells in village areas where the lack of clean water contributes to a myriad of health problems. To learn more about Care for Cambodia visit their website at www.careforcambodia.org or visit their onsite partnering organization at www.sustainablecambodia.org.

In 2006 the Salt Lake Rotaract club carried out its first Orange Project: a fundraiser to aid Catholic Community Services of Utah (CCS) with their Refugee Resettlement Program. The Orange Project stemmed from the brain of Mike Wells from the Tooele Rotary Club. California oranges were pre-sold to people in Utah then purchased at cost from the grove and delivered in person by Rotaractors. Samples were attained by way of a road trip to Southern California to ensure that customers could taste how great these oranges were. With the proceeds the club was able to buy new frames and mattresses for refugees.
